Venue Styling

For some, vintage weddings bring to mind pretty teacups and afternoon tea, demure dresses, and a touch of nostalgia. That's all nice and lovely, but it's not the only way to style a vintage wedding! Vintage is very "in" right now, and there are countless creative ways to impress your guests with this theme. Everything from your wedding dress, veil and shoes, flowers, bridesmaids’ outfits, table decorations and even your wedding cake can all be vintage style, and the use of vintage china can bring a dramatic vintage look to your wedding day. A vintage wedding is truly an individual affair, and the word "vintage" can mean so many styles; from the downright glitzy glamour of the 1930's Hollywood style, with gold sequins, pale cream satin, elegant white fluffy fur stoles and lots of pearls, to the more down home rustic style of the 1940's, with spotty pinnies, WI teas, homemade cakes and a make-do-and-mend village hall atmosphere. Then there's the 50s with the glamorous full skirts, gorgeous shoes, and birdcage veils, and the anything-goes 60s with their vibrant colours and even go-go boots for the bridesmaids! Once you've decided on your favourite decade, it's so much fun collecting little vintage items from charity shops or antiques markets. First and foremost is your wedding dress, and if you are a complete addict and want to get the buzz of finding something unique, you can trawl vintage sales and shops to hunt down that real vintage wedding dress, wax flowers and veil. However, a vintage dress might not be essential. Simply accessorizing in a vintage style may be enough. Lace is a feature that adds a vintage twist to an outfit, so bear this in mind when choosing your dress. Alternatively, many contemporary designers and stores sell vintage-style dresses, so you can get the right look and a brand new dress. When it comes to your wedding venue, the tables are a focal point. You can choose a silver three branch candelabra for elegant lighting, and make your tables look absolutely beautiful with glass cake stand centrepieces, pretty china and silver teapots, with a profusion of flowing flowers tumbling in loose arrangements. Another lovely idea for a vintage look is to hang attractive items from the marquee ceiling, such as pretty parasols, large tissue paper pom poms and pretty lampshades, for a wonderful nostalgic look. A great idea for the outside of your marquee or reception venue is an old bicycle with a large basket to hold your favours for the guests to help themselves, or just have it filled with lovely cascading flowers for a photo opportunity, or use it to hang a vintage "wedding this way" sign pointing towards the entrance. Lanterns and twinkly lights hanging in the trees add another focal point, and the overall look when using all of these ideas is breathtakingly romantic. Vintage means being different. It makes your wedding look non-conventional, and unique from any other wedding. It is an ideal combination of your style and what you love. It's about who you are and your individual style, and an unforgettable day for your guests.
